A Sculptural Mirror, Created as a Work of Art

A mirror can do more than reflect its surroundings. Georgina creates sculptural leather frames that bring colour, texture and character into a room—whether through carved roses, carefully worked surfaces or the forms of birds in flight.

Each commission begins with the space it will occupy. Georgina can work with you or your interior designer to develop a piece with its own scale, shape and detail, made to feel at home in that setting.

Bespoke Leather Convex Mirror

Red Rose Convex Mirror

A circular convex mirror set within a broad black leather frame. Layers of laser-cut oval shapes give the surface depth and rhythm, while polished metal studs catch the light across the frame. Small spikes around the outer edge add a sharper, unexpected detail. The contrast between the dark, intricately worked leather and the curved glass makes it a striking sculptural piece.

A large convex mirror framed in vivid red leather, with hand-carved roses and winding stems worked across its broad circular surround. Polished studs trace both edges of the frame, catching the light against the rich colour and delicate relief of the carving. At 100 cm in diameter, it has the scale to command a room. The piece was sold at COLLECT.

Birds in Flight Overmantle Mirror

A large black leather mirror crowned with sculpted birds in flight, surrounded by carved flowers and foliage. The raised forms bring movement and depth to the frame, while the contrast between dark leather and pale wings draws the eye to the detail of Georgina’s work. The mirror is a substantial sculptural piece, designed to hold its own in a room.

The individually worked feathers give the bird texture and movement, while the restrained leather surround lets the sculpture take centre stage.

Georgina Brett Chinnery: Artist & Sculptor

Georgina has spent more than two decades developing a distinctive practice in sculptural leatherwork. Her mirrors draw on the same techniques and artistic vision as her exhibited works.

• Royal Academy Summer Exhibition: Georgina exhibited in 2019 and 2023. Her life-size leather heron, Self Reliance, was shown and sold at the 2019 exhibition.

• Cockpit Arts / Leathersellers’ Award: Recipient in both 2014 and 2015.

• Collect: Her Flora and Fauna collection of hand-carved leather interior pieces was shown at the international art fair in 2011.

• Design exhibitions: Her work has also been shown at London Craft Week, London Design Festival, Decorex and Craftworks.

• Press: Georgina’s work has appeared in Vogue, How to Spend It, The Times and The Sunday Times.

• Private collections: Her work is held by collectors in the UK, USA, Dubai, Portugal and Uzbekistan.

Every mirror I make begins with a conversation. You might have a particular wall in mind, a size you need to work with, or an idea inspired by one of my earlier pieces. A photograph of the space is helpful, but you don’t need a finished brief.

Georgina's Sculpture Work

Beyond her mirrors, Georgina creates life-size leather bird sculptures and elaborate dressmaking mannequins. Through moulding, carving, gilding, braiding and stitching, she gives leather remarkable shape and texture—from the movement of a bird’s wing to the richly worked surfaces of her mannequins.
